Repsol SA, leading Spanish company in the oil and natural gas sectors, is a global multi-energy provider working to drive the evolution towards a low-emissions energy model. In the 2021-2025 Strategic Plan Repsol SA took on these ambitious challenges by evolving towards a customer-centric, multi-energy company that’s committed to digitalization, innovation, strategic talent management, and new ways of working.
The company is looking for innovators and experts who could provide solutions in bioeconomy and energy sector. A full summary of the challenge is available here:
Challenge Description
Transformation of geothermal resources into electricity suffers from the fact that the efficiency of the process is low. For a geothermal fluid below 90 ºC, the traditional ORC (Organic Rankine Cycle) has a net efficiency lower than 4%. This low efficiency limits the commercial use of these low temperature geothermal resources for power generation. Thus, the aim is to develop new technologies: new generation equipment’s (heat exchangers, turbines, etc.), improved thermodynamic cycles, new thermal fluids or combination of them, able to increase the net efficiency of the transformation from geothermal heat to electricity.
Technical requirements
The technologies offer must comply with:
– Be able to generate electricity from a geothermal fluid at temperatures in the range of 60-90 ºC
– Process efficiency must be at least 5-10% (net, from thermal watts to electric watts)
